Let's Talk and Save America is the result of a dire need in America. 

 

Looking for a way to help with the toxic partisan divide , I came across an article in the June 2023 issue of "The Atlantic" entitled "How America Got Mean".

I was struck by the deterioration of American life impacted by social media, driving social isolation.  It talked about the decline of civil discourse.  The decline in the willingness to serve.  The deterioration of giving.  The rise in mental health problems. Morality. Equity.

​

I’m talking about the factors and events that LED to the current environment of anger and disaffection.  High price of everything from groceries to housing to higher education, stagnant non-professional wages,  the deck stacked in favor of the rich that started with Reagan. Distrust of institutions & government.

Trump won the election in both 2016 and especially 2024 because he was better at communicating with disaffected voters, pedaling a version of history, reality and current events that worked to his favor.  He spoke and they listened.  Good, bad, right or wrong- his message resonated with them. He leveraged and amplified the cognitive dissonance we see that has and is destroying friendships, families and communities.

 

We’re going in the wrong direction.

 

So, I’ve started Let’s Talk and Save America to help Americans communicate effectively with one another, fight disinformation, engage with their community and get solutions to their problems.  We’ll provide education as an alternative to hate.  We’ll provide solutions as an alternative to idle talk.  We’ll help Americans navigate and bridge the toxic partisan divide to repair friendships, families and communities.

 

We are going to work with all 435 districts across the nation leveraging technology and ingenuity to:

• Discourage social isolation

• Listen to their problems

• Listen to their stories

• Ask questions

• Facilitate peer support sessions

• Educate Americans to combat disinformation

• Educate Americans to provide a foundation in civics, historical perspective and financial literacy

• Work with elected leaders and other nonprofit organizations to advocate for and find solutions for at-risk populations

• Promote community service

• Promote charity

• Promote a greater sense of community

• Promote inclusivity along religious, racial & socio-economic lines

• Promote and emphasize unity rather than differences

 

It’s not going to be easy as we reach across this country and return decency, respect, and positivity to our social discourse.

It wasn’t always like this.  People used to be decent to one another.  People used to talk to each other rather than at each other.  Let’s promote listening and not just talking.  Let’s promote action. Let’s rebuild friendships, families and communities.
